And then this happened...

It has been a busy month with Right to Know Colorado and organizing volunteers. We are in the home stretch to collect all the signatures needed to get this issue on the ballot for this November.

And in the midst of all the campaign work, my school, the Nutrition Therapy Institute in Denver, has interviewed me. It is about my volunteer work for Right to Know and the interview is tagged under their 'Student Spotlight'.

Learn how to avoid GMOs when shopping. 

There are more and more studies coming to the surface showing that GMOs are not a very good idea at all. Unfortunately, only a few people 'on the top' are scoring a profit from these pesticide resistant plants while we are left in the dark and deal with the consequences. 

Our family avoids them where we knowingly can. We eat organic and choose "Non-GMO project verified products". Because I know about the health and environmental effects and because we are fortunate enough that I CAN CHOOSE what my kids eat. 

Many cannot and please KNOW that I am fighting for you too! Every family should have the Right to Know what they are eating and every mom should be able to choose GMO free food for her baby!

GMO Education Series

I am super excited about this!

I am doing a GMO education series and hopefully you all will learn something.

I have talked to a lot of people lately about GMOs and everyone seems to know something different, has different information, different aspects they are concerned about or have no idea at all.

So, what could a nutritionist do about this? EDUCATE! Ha!

Here we go.

I wrote these short and easy to read pieces. They are labeled and work as a series and hopefully you all will find them educational and share them far and wide.

Everyone who eats needs to know about this so we can take back our food supply.

As consumers, we have the power!

We all need to do this together!

Organic, or as some of us call it 'food' will start to be affordable for everyone and non-organic will no longer make us ill.

From Processed Foods to DIY lunchables

Back in January I did a presentation on lunchables for our neighborhood school's PTO meeting. Here is a quick overview from the presentation.


Modern health problems - Processed food. 

- 2/3 of the American Population is overweight. That is more than 50% which means it is MORE NORMAL TO BE OVERWEIGHT THAN NOT.

- Today we are raising the first generation of children that will NOT OUT-LIVE THEIR PARENTS

- In the last 20 years we saw a 400% increase in FOOD ALLERGIES, a 300% increase in ASTHMA and a 400% increase in ADHD

- 1500 to 6000% increase in AUTISM!!! *1

Why did this happen?

In the last 20-30 years, food quality as dramatically decreased. *2

Today's food has ingredients that have never been in our food before. GMOs, pesticides, chemicals, hormones, antibiotics and altered oils are all contributing to toxicity in the body.

There is no limit of the number of pesticides that can be sprayed on produce. A conventionally grown apple has been sprayed 30 times before we buy it at the supermarket.

Processed food consumption has never been this high! The foods we are supposed to consume come without a label. If they have a label we need to read the ingredients and if there are words we can not pronounce or if we do not know what they mean, the item should stay in the shelf. 

The consumer has a lot of power. If we learn to read labels and refuse to buy products with artificial ingredients the companies will lose sales and come up with something better so they can make money again. It really is that simple. 

We have a RIGHT TO KNOW

We have a right to know what we are eating!

The U.S.A and Canada are the only countries where foods that are made with genetically modified ingredients are NOT labeled! *

Why do they not want us to know?

Labeling genetically modified foods should be common sense: without labeling we can not track possible side effects, without labels the consumer is left in the dark and even if you think there is nothing wrong with them you would want them labeled.

Colorado is circulating petitions to get a mandatory GMO labeling bill on the ballot for this November's election.

*note 5/03/2014: I am not sure that is true, there may be other countries who have no GMO labels or regulations, however, I have never heard of any. So if you do know this please enlighten me. thanks.

GMO education event. With yours truly. 

Because this matters. 

It is only in the United States and Canada that GMO's are NOT labeled. 

Everywhere else in the world they are labeled, or even banned. 

Why? Why do we not have the right to know? Why do they not want us to know? Is a GMO seed really the same as a conventional seed? Why are some foods genetically modified? Does it make them better? Are they safe?
